SKIJOR USA
AN ALLIANCE
The long term goal is to hold three regionally-based race series, each consisting of three to five races, held in the following regions:
Northern Rockies: Montana
Central Rockies: Utah, Idaho, Wyoming
Southern Rockies: Colorado, New Mexico
A year-end National Championship for qualifying teams will be held at a central location.
All competitors may enter the National Championship race and be eligible for race purse, but only the top five qualifiers (or those not mathematically eliminated) from each region will be eligible to compete for the National Championship based on points earned.
A common registration process will be instituted for SJUSA races and data will be retained.
SJUSA will obtain national and regional sponsorships for "Qualifying Races" and funds will be shared with member races either monetarily, or through requested assistance or provision of equipment, or other as deemed necessary/appropriate. "Associate Races" will benefit to a lesser degree, but we want to cultivate smaller, local races as future "Qualifying Races" and "Farm Leagues" for new competitors. This is good for us all!
Qualifying Races will be asked to abide by the terms of an SJUSA sponsorship package such as placement of logos on websites, social media, banners, posters and announcements during the race and possibly on radio or in print materials for the press.
Courses may not be designed by riders or skiers competing in that race.
A competitor may be "banned" from SJUSA races for unsportsmanlike conduct or abuse of another competitor, a Team member, a race official, an organizer or a horse.

Regional Race Series & National Championship
THREE REGIONS with QUalifying Races ~ ONE YEAR-END NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
SKIJOR USA will be offering a regional race series comprised of a Northern Division, a Central Division and a Southern Division. Competitors who nominate for points will be able to select three Qualifying Races at which to earn points. The leaders will be invited to compete for a national title at a National Championship at the end of the season.
Nominating Points System
$30 Per team
Teams wishing to earn points at Qualifying Races in their designated region will be asked to pay a one-time $30 registration fee per team.
National & Regional Sponsorships
"One for all and all for One"
By joining forces, our races will stand to benefit from larger sponsorships whether regional or national. A Sponsorship Program is being coordinated by SKIJOR USA team members. Sponsorships will benefit all Qualifying Races and contribute to SKIJOR USA for the benefit of the sport in its entirety. Funds raised will also support Associate Races to a degree since they are the "future" Qualifying Races and "farm leagues" for new competitors.
Event Insurance Network Program
Centralized program
Levi Downey of SKIJOR USA is working with several well-respected and established national insurance agencies on an event insurance program tiered at various levels to meet each race venues specific needs. Organizers will be able to speak to the insurance agents directly to discuss their needs and concerns. SKIJOR USA is not in the business of selling insurance since it is a regulated industry, and we are not licensed. We believe in leaving it to the experts and putting races directly in contact with the source.
4D Race Format
Optional Divisional Format
SKIJOR USA has spent considerable time studying the potential benefits of introducing a different race format. Sports like Barrel Racing use a format that divides competitors according to time splits. We realize that Skijoring has its unique set of challenges and that many venues may wish to retain an Open/Pro Division with its own course design. We have taken this into consideration and modified the 4D format accordingly. Statistics have been gathered from the 2018 race circuit for those interested in seeing it.
Course Regulators
Keeping everyone safe and Keeping the playing field equal
SKIJOR USA will have experienced and respected Team Members available to race venues in advance of their events to help with track building and inspection as well as fencing and crowd control issues.
Equipment
LEt'S work together as a community
SKIJOR USA will help to facilitate the loaning, sharing and purchasing of race equipment. Our goal is to have newer venues able to count on assistance from more established races in their region.
Timing Equipment and Race Announcers
Modern TECHNOLOGY & PROFESSIONAlism
We feel that our sport will only benefit from technological advances and professional talent. Professional timing equipment, digital LED displays, state of the art sound systems and announcers who are experienced announcing sporting venues such as rodeos and are familiar with our sport, race format and competitors will serve to promote skijoring as the unified and well organized sport it seeks to be.
